Tax-Free Childcare (support with childcare costs)

August 28th, 2026

Are you a working parent living in London and looking for help with childcare costs?
We have information about Tax-Free Childcare, a government scheme designed to make childcare more affordable for eligible families.

Tax-Free Childcare can help you save money on childcare costs. The government will add £2 for every £8 you pay into your childcare account, giving you up to £2,000 per child per year towards childcare costs (or up to £4,000 per year if your child has a disability).

How does it work?

First, check whether you are eligible by visiting the official government website:
https://www.gov.uk/tax-free-childcare

If you qualify, you can open a Tax-Free Childcare account and use it to pay registered childcare providers.

Why consider Tax-Free Childcare?

  • It can help reduce your childcare costs.

  • It is available to eligible working families, including self-employed parents.

  • It can be used for different types of approved childcare, including nurseries, childminders, nannies and after-school clubs.

Eligible families usually need to meet certain requirements, including employment and income criteria, and the child must normally be aged 11 or under (or 16 or under if disabled).

If you need advice or want to check your eligibility, our helplines are available Monday to Wednesday, 10 am to 4 pm:

  • RO/EN: 07730021986
