What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is a digital record of your immigration status in the UK. It has replaced physical documents like the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card, which expired on 31 December 2024. If you have settled status, pre-settled status, or any other immigration permission, this is now stored online in your UKVI account.
The most important thing before you travel
Your eVisa is linked to your passport. Before you travel, you must make sure the passport you are travelling with is the same passport saved in your UKVI account. If you have a new passport, update your UKVI account before you travel. If your passport details do not match, the airline may not let you board.

What is a share code?
A share code is a code you can use to prove your UK immigration status. Airlines and border officers can use it to check your permission to be in the UK.
When you travel, airlines will usually check your status automatically using your passport details. You do not always need a share code. However, we recommend you get one before every trip as a backup in case the automatic check does not work.
If you are travelling on to Ireland, you will need a share code.
How to get a share code
Sign in to your UKVI account. If you do not have one, create one here: www.gov.uk/evisa/set-up-ukvi-account (Watch this video from the Home Office on how to create a UKVI account: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IqAbBCfBYI)
Select the option to view and share your immigration status
For travel, choose "Something else" as the reason
Save or print your share code
Your share code is valid for 90 days. You can use it as many times as you need during that period. When the 90 days are up, you can get a new one.
If you have problems at the airport
If the airline cannot check your status and you are unable to board, call the free passenger support helpline at any time: 0800 876 6921
If you have told UKVI about a new passport but your account has not been updated yet, carry your old passport with you as well.
Tips
Keep your share code safe and do not share it with anyone you do not trust.
Before every trip, check that your UKVI account shows the correct passport details.
If you get a new passport, update your UKVI account straight away — do not wait until you are about to travel.
